Levy Inbal-Yona
4th Exhibition in the 14th Nidbach series: Miss America
Curator: Barak Yair
Opening: Saturday, 1 September 2007
Closing: Saturday, 6 October 2007
Exhibition No. 4 in the 14th Nidbach series
The works of Inbal-Yona Levy presenting the “american dream” while simultaneously breaking it. In fact there is no process or squeal between the state of desire and that of disappointment. Levy desires a cheerleaders’ well build body, a tall boyfriend, but reality doesn’t permit, neither her nor her viewers, to dwell upon such fantasies. The exhibition “Miss America” moves from the gendered-private self towards questions of national-collective identity, dealing with representations of the female body and discussing the question of the Israeli peripheral identity. Levy’s work moves from seduction to revulsion, the gown, the cheerleader’s clothes and the diner are all myths of a society that decorates itself with exterior and materialistic images defining western cultural canon.
