Ben-Yaacov–Rosenblum Anastasia

About the artist

Born in Germany, and grew up in Tel Aviv – Jaffa, Anastasia started painting, designing jewelry and sculpting in the late sixties. In 1967 she came to Jerusalem with her late husband, the sculptor Izzy Ben Yaacov, and the couple worked and exhibited together at the picturesque artist’s neighborhood of Yemin Moshe.Anastasia has studied with the artists Marek Yanai, Yosef Hirsh, Yan Rauchwerger, Zvi Lachman and at ‘The Jerusalem Studio school’ under the guidance of Israel Hirshberg. She also studied art history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and took various courses at the Betzalel Academy.

Anastasia grasps painting as a process of understanding forces and contrasts in nature, and creating a system of shapes based on this understanding. Thereof her love for painting landscapes, where she feels that soil, sky and the intervening space are her own private studio and experimentation field.

Working in aquarelle, tempera and oil, Anastasia combines open-air instantaneous painting, confronting wind, heat and dust, with ‘processed’ indoor painting, based on the charges left after returning back home.
