This is a full catalogue of “Traces III,” the third in the series of national drawing biennial exhibitions initiated by the Jerusalem Artists’ House. Over 200 drawings by around 150 artists have been shown in this extensive exhibition. The exhibition will was held concurrently in four artist-based exhibition spaces in Jerusalem: The Artists’ House, Barbur Gallery, Agripas 12 Gallery, and The Jerusalem Print Workshop.
The drawings exhibited in the central exhibition at the Jerusalem Artists’ House placed an emphasis on their historical connections to sketching and writing and make modern connections to photography, illustration, installation, and animation. Alongside traditional techniques of pencil, charcoal, or ink on paper, other development possibilities in drawing can be identified including a frequent use of color and of photography. This is testimony to the weight artists today give to drawing as an independent medium that is much more varied than conserving the classical and modernist traditions.
